MAY 19-21 NIGUMA YOGA at KSK Buddhist Center. Register here.

H.E. Kalu Rinpoche will personally transmit the instructions for performing Niguma Yoga — a series of physical postures, movements, and breathing techniques — at this three-day event. The Niguma Yoga practice originated with the enlightened dakini Niguma in 11th century India and has been maintained in an unbroken lineage of tranmission for the last 1,000 years. Rinpoche is offering these instructions for anyone seeking to uplift their physical and mental well-being. These exercises are extremely beneficial for the mind, physical body, and inner subtle body.

The Niguma Yoga event is suitable for people of all ages, physical capabilities, faiths, ethnicities, and orientations. It is expected that not all who attend will be able to perform the full set of exercises — everyone is welcome to participate as they are able and receive the wisdom teachings of H.E. Kalu Rinpoche! Additionally, no one will be turned away for lack of funds — but please contribute as generously as possible to support the ongoing dharma activities of H.E. Kalu Rinpoche and KSK Buddhist Center.

Rinpoche’s public transmission of the Niguma yoga practice marks a new era in Vajrayana Buddhism, in which a once-secret practice is made available to the general public by an experienced lineage holder. As H.E. Kalu Rinpoche explains, this new openness surrounding the Tibetan Yoga tradition, according to H.H. the Dalai Lama, is for the mutual benefit of individuals and society at large. For a description of the decision to make these teachings available publicly, please see: https://shangpakagyu.org/kalu-rinpoche-the-purpose-of-the-niguma-yoga-part-3/

Niguma was an enlightened dakini who played a major role in the development of Vajrayana Buddhism in India during the 10th & 11th centuries. She is one of the two female founders of the Shangpa Kagyu school of Vajrayana Buddhism along with Sukhasiddhi. For more information on Niguma, we recommend Lama Sarah Harding’s book Niguma, Lady of Illusion (Shambhala Publications, 2011) and this article from Lion’s Roar.
