with Dr. Fred Cooper

Saturday, December 7

10:00 am – Noon    &

1:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Although from a Buddhist perspective, our true nature embodies infinite love and compassion (often seen in a mother’s love for her child), because of our being conditioned and having developed negative habits and patterns, we do not experience our true compassionate nature.  In Buddhism, three styles of practice have evolved to help us reconnect to our true nature. These approaches are all based on first allowing ourselves to be happy, experience joy, and be free from suffering, and then extending this loving kindness and compassion to others.  These methods are called Metta, Tong-Len, and Chenrezig meditations.  To register call 505-982-4763 or email Fred at cooper@santafe.edu. Suggested donation for both sessions: $35. Pre-registration is helpful so enough texts may be provided.  Bring a lunch for the break.

Dr. Fred Cooper has received the transmission of these teachings from Sharon Salzberg, H.E. Tai Situ Rinpoche, Traleg Kyabgon Rinpoche, H.H. the Dalai Lama, and H.E. Kalu Rinpoche.  Fred is a physicist on the External Faculty of the Santa Fe Institute and is president of Kagyu Shenpen Kunchab Buddhist Center in Santa Fe.
